I tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and kissed her on the lips.
Then in my arms she started to disappear with tear stained cheeks.
Evaporating before my eyes, I tried to pull her close.
But, no matter how hard I tried, she wasn't going to last.

As of recent, I'm sure everyone has heard of President Obama's new thing. He pretty much turned off the water for the San Joaquin Valley area in order to save an endangered fish known as the Delta Smelt (1). I'm all for saving animals as the next person but this action should have gone through some thinking processes before the government put it up for a vote.

California produces close to 12.8% of the United States agriculture. The majority is held within the San Joaquin Valley (2). Shutting off the water will kill off most of our crops. This will cause our nation to have to rely more on other countries imported crops. The San Joaquin Valley River Delta has recently become a major port connecting to the both ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. Shutting off the water cuts off this path for oceangoing cargo ships. This can cause a bombardment between the ports and possibly causing some ships to think of rerouting. Doing so could take more time before our fruits and vegetables get to our nation.

Our country has high health standards and there hasn't been much need of an alarm on getting salmonella from our crops. Other countries, however, do not have such standards. Since we will require more of our crops to be imported there will be a heightened risk of becoming ill. With ships possibly needing to reroute their paths this can make the fruits and vegetables we get even worse. Also, doing so will mean that other countries will need more oil for the fuel in their ships increasing the prices businesses will need to pay in order to sell the crops. With the crops becoming dried out and dead, the prices will automatically go up. The businesses will just add more to it for the fuel so they can make a good amount of profit.

The majority of our nations people do not own fancy cars and big houses. In order for people to eat in a healthy manner you need to have a great paying job. With unemployment rates increasing, it becomes hard to imagine that many people have such a thing. Shutting off the water will only increase the unemployment rates. Farmers are now jobless and will soon lose their homes and hope that some fast food place is hiring so they can live with a minimum amount of food and a roof over their head. If crop prices increase as much as they might, this minimum amount of food will become boxes of Twinkies. A box of Twinkies that will add to the fat that people will need in order to have energy is close to the same price as a head of lettuce, which won't add that energetic fat. Since junk food will become even more easier to buy our nations obesity rate will obviously increase. America is already thought of the fattest nation, imagine how it will be when we're only eating Twinkies for each meal everyday.

Becoming overly obese isn't the only thing there is to worry about. If some people aren't even able to afford an occasional orange there is certain to be a type of scurvy coming across the nation. Scurvy isn't just some illness that occurs only in pirate stories, it can actually happen. It can cause a loss of teeth along with open and suppurating wounds. This of course is in advanced scurvy as a not so advanced diagnosis of scurvy can cause formation of spots that are usually on the thighs. It can also cause spongy gums and bleeding from the mucous membranes. Though it is easily treated by getting vitamin c, the feeling of immobilization and depression may get to some more than others (3).

The lack of water in the San Joaquin Valley is also causing a drought. All over the news is reports about wild fires in California. Most of them are caused by droughts from mother nature herself. When humans are creating a drought in a place that is known for so many wildfires there should be a click in a persons mind that it may not be such a good idea. Does California really need more wildfires to report on the news? Most would hopefully say no. There are commercials promoting California as a beautiful place that everyone should go to. In reality though, there seems to be an abundance of wildfires. There should be no reason why people should add to it.

This all sounds a bit crappy. So how about we as a nation try to fix this? Since the Delta Smelt is endangered according to the IUCN Red List, why don't we make a zoo exhibit for it. Doing so will give them a chance to repopulate and keep them self from predators. This also may help others recognize this type of fish and become aware of the danger that it is in.

A reason the Delta Smelt is so endangered is because of fishermen using them as bait fish. Bass love to eat them up and if one is fishing for Bass, using a Delta Smelt as bait makes sense. Only problem with that is in 1993 it became illegal to do such a thing (4). Since this is still happening, the act that was passed in order to protect these fish apparently wasn't clear on the consequences. Actions should be taken against those who putting these fish in danger. Doing this may prevent others from continuing to use the fish as bait for larger fish and making their population increase and decreasing their endangered state.

Doing this would reopen the river and letting water back to these now unemployed farmers. Since these farmers will again become employed, the unemployment rate will decrease. Along with this means that taxes can get paid and could ultimately lead to the national debt decreasing to some degree.

The only problem with this plan is the money it may cost to get an exhibit going. People may be more willing to donate to such a cause and see jobs start to increase instead of seeing many farmers lose their jobs and crop prices increase to the point that they are only living off of Twinkies. So as a nation America, how about we try this? Let's become a real nation and look out for each other and try to become a place where people know that there is freedom and happiness amongst the majority.

Mac sat high on a branch of a tree deep in Isax Forest. Tears filled her eyes and her only comfort was her tail wrapped tightly around her body. Sniffling, she wiped her nose and eyes while looking down at the ground.
“Mac?”
 It was Tidan. Mac whined as she heard his voice, her tail tightening even more around her.
“Mac, where are you? Please don’t be cross!”
He sighed heavily, starting to give up when he felt a drop of water drip on his head. Looking up he expected to see rain clouds but, instead he saw a blur of red fur. Mac. He expanded his wings and sat on a branch adjacent to hers. She whimpered softly and started to lightly sob.
“Mac please forgive me. I’ve been such an asshole. You deserve so much more than what I have to give. You shoul…”
“Shut it.”
Mac growled and sniffled once more. Tidan quickly shut his mouth and there was silence between them. Mac felt herself ease up and exhaled deeply.
“Tidan…”
She spoke so gently that it shocked him. He hadn’t heard her speak in this tone for the longest time. Not that that’s a bad thing for it was a tone he loved most and missed dearly. “Yes?”
She sighed and took a deep breath. “I’m sorry, and before you say anything just hear me out.”
He nodded and though he knew she couldn’t see this, he knew she felt it.
Again silence fell amongst them.
“I…” Mac sighed  and tried to search for her words. “I haven’t been the greatest friend or girl friend. I love you more than you’ll ever understand but, I need to be away from you. Please don’t follow.”
 With that she was gone. Tidan sat in shock and gripped the branch he was sitting on, a tear falling down his face and flew off in the opposite direction.

-FIVE YEARS LATER-

 Mac slowly walked towards  Isax Forest. It had been so long since she felt the presence of being home. She stopped at the entrance and deeply inhaled. Looking up at the sky she smiled and walked into the forest. Everything felt the same but nothing truly was.  There were new families of Zerias and most of them didn’t notice her walking through as the path seemed to be more populated than it had years back.  Mac finally came up to the tree that she once called home. Looking up into it she saw that it too was filled with new families.  Mac smiled happily to herself and continued on her path.

 “Do you want eggs?” Karin yelled out. Tidan walked into the kitchen and kissed her cheek.
“You know I don’t eat meat I haven’t sin…”
“Since you were with Mac. I know.” Karin rolled her eyes and finished making her breakfast. Tidan grabbed a glass and poured himself some orange juice while watching Karin cook. She felt his eyes on her and decided to play along. She slowly stretched, letting out a soft moan. He licked his lips and looked along her body. She walked over to a lower cupboard and bent down wither her legs spread apart, exposing herself to him. Unable to take much more he turned off the stove and grabbed Karin, pushing her  down onto the table and thrusting deep into her. She moaned and wrapped her legs tightly around his waist. She looked down and started to turn away just as the door opened.
“Can I help you?”
“Goodness,” she thought. “Did he even recognize me?” She looked up at him. She barely saw the old Tidan standing before her.

Looking behind him she noticed a toned female figure standing to the side. 
“Tidan, who’s that?”
Tidan  placed her down and turned around seeing Karin there he smiled. “This is Karin!” She walked up and greeted Mac. Mac looked her up and down, realizing she was only in her panties and bra that were slightly crooked. Looking over at Tidan she noticed his disshelveled look and gasped.
“Oh my god I interrupted some hot romping didn’t I?”
Karin smiled slyly and exteded her hand out. “Nice to meet you…”

 Tidan exhaled deeply thanking the Gods that she agreed to eat. Karin watched as Mac set her things down and took her shoes off as if it came as second nature to her. Like she’d been doing it for years.
“So how do you like your eggs?” Karin smiled sweetly. “I don’t,” Mac responded. “I don’t eat meat of any kind. Really just some water will do.” She finally made eye contact with Karin. Tidan looked at them both and started to feel the tension.
“So Mac, c’mon and sit down in the kitchen. Let’s talk about your travels!” Mac smiled sweetly and they walked past Karin into the kitchen.
Karin followed behind them, fixing herself back up.  Watching them sit down she poured Mac a glass of water and set it down before her.
“Thanks.” She swirled her finger around in the glass and watched it, then looked up at Tidan watching him. His eyes were on her completely. She blushed a bit. She hadn’t seen him do this in years. She had forgotten how nice it was. She heard Karin clear her throat and took a swig of her water.
“I just kept walking I guess Tidan.” She looked at her glass then heard Karin start the stove back up. She smiled to herself.
“Flame is out again,” she looked up at Tidan. “You haven’t gotten a new one?”  They laughed softly and he shook his head. “No. You know me, I’m a horrible cook. I never thought about it.” She smiled at him and saw Karin sit down beside them and start eating as if they weren’t there.
“So Mac, tell me more! What did you see?”
Mac smiled at him. He knew darn well what she saw. He’s flown over so much of Fiwal that it’s impossible that he didn’t know. “A lot of farm land. I helped out a few people. They gave me a few things to eat and some shelter for the night. A lot of wooded areas and beautiful lakes and waterfalls. I met so many different people it was amazing,” Mac started to blush. “There was this one girl,” she trailed off.
Karin spoke up, curious of Mac. “A girl?” She could’ve sworn Tidan said they dated but how if she’s into girls?
Mac blushed even more and looked from Karin to Tidan. “You wouldn’t believe how gorgeous she was! I was walking into town and I heard this amazing music! It sounded like that stuff from Earth Tidan!” She smiled widely at him and he couldn’t help but smile himself. He could see how happy she was.
“She had this…this guitar! Her voice was so angelic and she sang like she needed to be heard. Her voice blew me away. I got closer to her and I looked up upon her. I swear it was a type of angel. Her hair was as black as a ravens feathers but when she played, it flew about gracefully. Her pants were made of leather and when she sweated she sprayed it on everyone. It tasted amazing! I was in such shock. I didn’t know what to do but to stare at her. Eventually I left though and went on with my travels. I haven’t heard or seen her since.” Mac took a drink of her water and stared at it.
Karin looked at her suspiciously then looked over at Tidan who seemed to be studying her.
“Karin plays guitar,” he said. Mac smiled at him. “So do I. I started playing after I saw that girl. She was such an inspiration. Along with mental company for those lonely nights if you know what I mean.” They both laughed a bit and Karin continued to eat.
“Why are you back Mac?” Tidan looked sadly at her, starting to remember what all happened five years ago.  Mac bit her lip and frowned a bit. Tidan sensed her sadness. “Mac, look at me.” She slowly looked up and into his eyes. “Tell me why you came back.” She smiled and blushed. “For you.”
